4/14/08: The Kansas Learning Center for Health Hosts Children's Health and Art Camps in July 2008 (Acrobat® PDF 350K) - This summer, the Kansas Learning Center for Health will be hosting "Brains, Nerves and Eyeballs, Oh My!" for grades 6-7 (completed) and "Get in the 'Beat' with Your Luby, Duby Heart!" for grades 4-5 (completed) in early and mid-July, and "It's A Fruit, It's A Painting, It's A Masterpiece" for ages 4-5 and grades K-3 in late July. Register your child to attend a Summer of Discovery health and art camp!

2/10/08: Jan Frieb Named Teacher of the Year (Microsoft® Word® 25K) - The Kansas Learning Center for Health is pleased to announce that Jan Frieb, Trinity Catholic High School, was presented the Teacher of the Year for 2007-2008. The Center applauds Jan’s commitment to the Learning Center and to health education. Jan has been instrumental in helping us fine tune a number of our programs for Middle and High School students. We are pleased to honor her in this way.

8/6/07: Kids Say Conflict with Siblings #1 (Microsoft® Word® 48K) - Kids are bound to argue and disagree. Even best friends and close siblings don’t always think alike or want the same thing. But when disagreements lead to arguments, unkind words, hitting, and fighting, it can be a big deal. During a recent visit to the Kansas Learning Center for Health, 120 South-Central Kansas -area kids ages 9–13 participated in a KidsHealth® KidsPoll about the conflicts they have.

5/30/07: Ongoing Assessment Ensures the Kansas Learning Center for Health Delivers High Quality Programs to Students (Acrobat® PDF 68K) - Evaluating our programs is extremely important to our mission at the Kansas Learning Center for Health. Pre- and post- tests with students at the center, and teacher evaluations, help us quantify the impact we’re making on our students. During the 2006-2007 school year, students demonstrated considerable knowledge gain in outcomes-based tests in three program topic areas. Following each program, teachers were also asked to provide feedback on program content, instructor knowledge, curriculum requirements, and student involvement.

1/30/07: Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee Cal Ripken Helps Kids & Parents in Youth Sports (Microsoft® Word® 36K) - If you like baseball, you’ve probably heard of Cal Ripkin, Jr. He spent 21 years in the major leagues and holds the record for most consecutive games played – 2,632 games for the Baltimore Orioles. Cal has just been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. He has also completed a series of video interviews answering questions from parents and kids on topics such as Helping Kids Deal with Defeat, How Parents Can Be Good Spectators; and Competitiveness in Youth Sports.

10/11/06: When It Comes to Communicating, What Do Teens Want Most from Their Parents? (Microsoft® Word® 56K) - As kids mature, the balance between being involved in their lives while also providing them with autonomy is something that all parents struggle with. After all, having mom or dad “too involved” is definitely not cool. During a visit to the Kansas Learning Center for Health, area kids ages 9-13 participated in a KidsHealth® KidsPoll about what they thought about their relationship with their parents.

3/27/06: KidsPoll Shows Kansas Kids Are Not Getting Enough Sleep (Microsoft® Word® 36K) - With more and more things competing for your child’s waking hours, it is not surprising to hear that most kids are sleep deprived. A recent KidsHealth® KidsPoll asked 200 area children, ages 9-13, during a visit to the Kansas Learning Center for Health, to share their habits and attitudes about sleep. In total, 1,187 children from health education centers across the country weighed in on this topic.
