Our Mission: The mission of the Kansas Learning Center for Health is to be the premier resource for health education for schoolchildren, the lay public and health care professionals in the state.
Since 1965, the Kansas Learning Center for Health has partnered with schools in Kansas. By adhering to the Kansas State Science & Health Standards and emphasizing tobacco and drug free living, the Learning Center has developed classes that actively engage students in learning. Multimedia exhibits and engaging activities enable everyone to explore the wonders of the human body. Our format also allows teachers to pick the option best suited to their lesson objectives.
The Learning Center is home to Valeda, too. Valeda, the transparent talking woman, has been sharing her story with thousands of students since 1965. Visit the Center to see Valeda, one of the few life-size, transparent, anatomical mannequins in the United States.

K-6 Outreach programs can be scheduled for K-5, K-6, 6-9, 6-12. Please contact our scheduler for specific information for your building.
Food, drinks and gum are not allowed in the Learning Center. If your school is at the Center over the lunch hour, you are welcome to use our Brown Bag Lunch area in the basement of our facility. Scout Park, located a few blocks from the Learning Center, is a wonderful place to have lunch with a covered gazebo, picnic benches and play equipment. Local restaurants are also within walking distance.
In order to accommodate all of our guests, groups arriving late will have their program shortened to stay within the scheduled time slot.
Teacher/Chaperones are required to accompany students through the field trip and outreach programs. A minimum of one adult for every 15 students is recommended. One adult per every 15 students is welcomed free of charge.
